Perlite #3 is great for plants that need a faster draining medium. It can be used by itself when growing hydroponically, or added to soil or other mediums to create the ideal mix for tropical plants such as monstera, alocasia and philodendron species.
Perlite #3 is a naturally occurring siliceous rock that when heated to 1600° F expands up to 20 times its original volume. This kilning process is very similar to popping popcorn and produces a growing media that is sterile and has a neutral pH of 7.0.
The exceptional physical properties of this perlite make it the best there is for adding porosity to soil and soilless mixes. This perlite has numerous hydroponic applications as well. One of our favorite mixes is a 50/50 or 70/30 mix of Coco Coir/Perlite.
Our #3 Perlite measures around 1/2 inch and our Coarse is approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch. We also offer our Chunky Perlite #4 which is the largest perlite on the market and averages a whopping size of up to 1 inch in diameter.
NOTE:
Although our #3 Perlite is super-clean with an extremely low dust content, some dust may form during transportation to you. If it does it will be very minimal, and it can be removed simply by rinsing in a colander, or by blowing the dust off with a fan outside.

Customers praised this coarse perlite for delivering the correct particle size with low dust. One shopper said it "was a home run" after trying several disappointing alternatives. The product arrives intact without being pulverized, meeting expectations for chunky, large-grade perlite.
I’ve bought several kinds of perlite on amazon. All claiming to be “coarse” or “Large”. But they’ve all disappointed. At best, I’ve gotten bags of the standard size perlite with chunky pieces mixed in. But this purchase was a home run! Correct particle size, low dust and it didn’t arrive pulverized! Wish I would’ve purchased here from the start!
Hi Karl Jonas, thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We're thrilled to hear our Perlite #3 met your expectations and made a difference. We appreciate your support and hope to serve you again soon!
Thanks again!
The #3 coarse perlite was as described. All the samples I checked from other providers were degraded by rough handling, creating a lot of smaller pieces and dust. This, the 1 cu.ft. sample was well protected in a right sized box limiting damage.
