How to Determine How Many Power Cords and Interconnect Cables to Order

One pair of 4' UCL's are designed to cover a 4' x 4' area. Each UCL has a short, flexible pigtail that allows you to daisy-chain multiple fixtures together (both power and data/dimming). So if you will be running multiple fixtures in a straight line and the fixtures will be very close to each other end-to-end, you would only need a single power cord and no extension cables.

Common configurations/examples:

• 4' x 4' space: this would require (1) pair of UCL's, (1) power cord and (1) interconnect cable, since the two fixtures will be spaced a couple of feet apart, which is longer than the pigtails on the fixtures themselves.
• 4' x 8' space: this would require (2) pair of UCL's, (1) power cord and (1) interconnect cable. Each pair of UCL's would be daisy-chained together using the attached pigtails to make an 8' long light, and the interconnect cable would join the first 8' section on one side of the space to the second 8' section on the other side. All four fixtures would be powered by the same power cord.

Now that you understand how the fixtures daisy chain together and how the interconnect cables are used, you can see how easy it is to expand this to larger spaces, custom benches, etc. Keep in mind there is a limit to how many fixtures you can daisy chain together:

Controller Options

Grow Pros UCL's can be controlled using most 0-10V controllers on the market today. When using a TrolMaster controller you will simply need to add a TrolMaster LMA-14. Grow Pros also offers a low-cost controller that has many additional features for controlling UCL's.

If you are planning on using a simple ON/OFF timer to control your Under Canopy Lights then you will need a Data Bypass Chip to plug into the data side of the power cord. This will make the lights default to 100% ON when they get power from the wall. This chip by-passes the standard commercial setting that defaults the light to 0% OFF until it receives a data signal (from a 0-10V lighting controller) to turn on. This commercial setting prevents lights from turning on in the middle of the night if the data signal or an individual fixture malfunctions. However, without using a Data Bypass Chip or a lighting controller, the fixture will not turn on when it's powered on.

Simply put...

• If you plan on using your Under Canopy Lights with a lighting controller (e.g. TrolMaster or any other 0-10V controller) - you do not need to purchase a Data Bypass Chip.
• If you will not be using a lighting controller - you must purchase a Data Bypass Chip.
